Marguerite Elizabeth (O'Toole) Manley, a former Arlington area resident, age 88, died on Sunday August 11, 2019, at Clarkson Health Care Center in Rapid City, SD.
Marguerite was born on July 17, 1931 in Watertown, SD, to parents John and Delores O'Toole. She grew up on the family homestead near Florence SD. She attended country school and graduated from Watertown High School in 1949. She married Dale Manley in January 1952 and moved to Arlington. They raised their family on the farm southwest of Arlington until mid-70's when they retired from farming and moved into Arlington. In 2012 Marguerite moved to Rapid City to be closer to family.
She lived most of her life in the Arlington area. After moving into town she worked at various businesses in Arlington including the public school, grocery store, and finally at Citizens State Bank until she retired. After she retired she worked and sold many of her creations at the gift shop in downtown Arlington.
Marguerite was deeply involved in the St. John's Catholic Church. She enjoyed her flower gardens, stained glass creations, treating the many children who came to visit on Halloween, community theater work, Norwegian rosemaling painting, pottery collecting, and pressed flower creations. Her family and friends will always remember her as a very giving and creative person who loved children. As she recently told her granddaughter, her most important accomplishment was being a mother.
Marguerite is survived by her sister Rita Fleming of Scottsdale AZ, and her seven children, Michael Manley of Rapid City; Peter (Mary) Manley of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Paula (Jim) Manley of Spearfish, SD; Dodey Manley of Rapid City, SD; Martie (Roger) Bohls of Rapid City, SD; Patrick (Katrina) Manley of Sioux Falls, SD; David (Sarah) Manley of Waconia, MN. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; Timothy and Michael Knutson, Matthew Manley, Liza and Ceci Bohls, Andrew and Aislynn Manley, Collin and Jackson Manley; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale, her brothers Jack and Art O'Toole and her granddaughter Katy Manley.
A funeral mass is scheduled for Marguerite on Monday August 19th, 2019, at 10:00 AM at St. John's Catholic Church in Arlington with a reception in the church following burial in the Arlington Cemetery.
