Marguerite E. Gradowski, age 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep, late Saturday evening, December 28th, at her residence in Erving, MA. She was born September 2nd, 1942 in Montague City, MA, a daughter of the late Arthur and Edith (DeGraffe) Paulin.
Marguerite (or Peggy, as she was known by friends and family) leaves behind her beloved husband of 37 years, Stanley J. Gradowski Jr., a sister, Ann Marie Zimmerman of Greenfield, a brother, James (Jim) Paulin and his wife, Barbra, of Gill, a sister-in-law, Jane Paulin of Boothbay Harbor, ME, a brother-in-law, John Pielock, of Irvine, California, a son, Gary Squires of Erving and his partner Janice Momaney of Northfield, a granddaughter, Briana Johnson of Keene, NH, great granddaughter Raelynn Johnson also of Keene, NH, and Mark and Jacky Mailloux of Montague City, whom she thought of as an extension of her own family as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews,
She is predeceased by her parents, a sister, Betty Pielock, a brother, Arthur Paulin Jr., a stepdaughter, Alista Gradowski, and grandson, Mathew Squires.
Peggy grew up with her siblings on Farren Ave in Montague city, near the Farren Memorial Hospital where her father, Arthur, worked as the head of engineering. She attended the St. Anne's Catholic School before entering the Montague school system in the 9th grade and was a graduate of Turners Falls High School. She lived close to the Farren until moving to Shelburne in 1981 where she met her future husband, Stanley and shortly after developed her love for big dogs (Newfoundlands). They moved to Erving shortly after.
She worked most of her adult life at the Farren Memorial Hospital in Montaue City as a phlebotomist, attending night school and eventually becoming the lab supervisor. She left the Farren to take the position of lab manager for the Connecticut River Internists, also located in Montague City, until her retirement in 2000.
She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, and the occasional day out with "the girls". She also enjoyed traveling with family and friends. The destination could be anywhere from a beach in Maine, the mountains of Virginia or Colorado, the islands of the Caribbean, or the Italian coast.
A mass will be held at Our Lady of Czestochowa at 10:00am on Friday, January 10th - 84 K Street, Turners Falls MA. 01376
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Millers Falls Rod and Gun from 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Saturday, January 11th - 210 Turners Falls Road, Montague, MA 01351
