"What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him." I Corinthians 2:9
In the twinkling of an eye, our Margie was received into the arms of her Creator, March 12, 2021, and experienced the fullness of incomprehensible love and joy. Her earthly longings and thirst are now fully realized in Christ Jesus.
Our Mama, Minnie Margaret Ward, entered the world on June 14, 1930, in Swenson, Texas, to parents J. E. and Lola White Ward. She was the fifth of six children. In 1948, she graduated from Lamesa High School, and until 1952, was employed by Lamesa's Rexall Drug Store and the Ben Franklin Store.
She met a young veteran not long after his return from service in the European Theater. She and Troy Lee Jones dated for several years and married on March 31, 1950, in Portales, N.M. There were three children born to this union of lives: Cathy Marion, Terry Lee, and Jeffery Ward.
Mom was the consummate homemaker. She added touches of warmth and beauty to every house in which we lived, and made each a very comfortable and inviting home to live and visit. Because she accepted folks just as they were, our home provided a safe haven for anyone who needed a respite from the cares of life. Although she had no credentials as a psychologist, she provided therapeutic listening skills with her friends, and rarely offered advice. This author, as a young, harried Mother of three babies, could drop anchor in her harbor of safety and love, then sail away feeling renewed and ready to tackle life again.
Marge was crazy-in-love with each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To her, they were the icing on her cake. She often came alongside her daughters in seasons of illness and distress, to care for them, their homes, and children.
Mom was an exceptional cook, and during a time when the family budget was tight, she taught herself the art of pie-making to sell to our local, small-town restaurants and to many satisfied customers. On one day during the holidays, she whipped up thirty pies of different varieties, with the pie-stirring assistance of her two daughters. Back then, she sold a pie for $8.00. Her delicious pies and cakes were the highlight of the large family gatherings she often hosted.
She and Dad were married seventy years, until Dad passed away on November 22, 2020, from the complications of COVID pneumonia. They were so blessed to have Heartland House assisted-living as their home for the last years of their lives, and were known, loved, and cared for by its wonderful owners and staff.
Mom was predeceased by her parents and five siblings: James Ward, Aileen Lyle, Bill Ward, W.P. Ward, Ann Gober, and several precious nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her children, Mike and Cathy Jones Buchanan of Lubbock, James and Terry Jones Byers of Muleshoe, and Jeff and L'Anna Jones of Lubbock, eight grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. Mom leaves us a precious legacy of revealing God and His glory through the ways in which we relate with others.
Friends of the family are invited to attend Marge's graveside service at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Woodrow, Texas, on Monday, March 15, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of florals, her family kindly request memorial donations be sent to Hospice of Lubbock, 3702 21st St., Lubbock, Texas 79410, with heartfelt gratitude for their loving, professional end-of-life care for Mom and Dad.
