Margaret "Maggie" Elizabeth (Bradbury) Rice, 75, of Rowe, MA, died peacefully on June 27, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family after a brief battle with cancer. Maggie was born in Pittsfield, MA on January 22, 1947, to Allan Rossman Bradbury and Phyllis Esther (Corey) Bradbury. She grew up playing in the woods at Mount Hope Farm in Williamstown, MA. Maggie graduated from Mt. Greylock Regional High School in 1965. In 1968, she graduated from the last class of the Henry W. Bishop III Memorial School of Nursing, which was affiliated with the Pittsfield General Hospital. Maggie used her skills as a registered nurse for 50 years. She worked for 20 of those years at North Adams Regional Hospital, where she had served as a candy striper in her teenage years. Maggie also worked in nursing/rehab centers in Berkshire and Franklin counties. In her retirement years, Maggie served for seven years on the Rowe Board of Health and 27 years as an active board member for Rowe Elementary School.
Maggie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert R. Rice. Her family includes a son, Dean Rice (Jennifer), and a daughter, Claudine Poplawski (Daniel). Maggie was predeceased by her daughter Sabrina Corey Rice in 1984. Maggie also leaves seven cherished grandchildren (Alex, Jameson, Tyler, Jordan, Hannah, Emma, and Grace). She is survived by her sisters Carolyn Smith (Kime) of Concord, CA and Catherine Whitcomb (David) of Worthington, MA and her brother Dr. Andrew Bradbury (Rebecca) of Rexburg, Idaho. She leaves 13 nieces and nephews and 25 grandnieces and nephews.
Maggie loved her family and friends above all else. She spent her time creating beautiful gardens, tending honeybees and chickens, and enjoying the company of her dogs (Cassie and Chief) and cat (Theodore).
Maggie and Bob visited all 50 states in the USA on their various road trips.
The family has requested no calling hours. They will hold a private memorial service.
Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home in Shelburne Falls is assisting the family.
