Margaret Blanton Peterson died on February 13, 2021, two days shy of her 94th birthday. She was a native of Martin County and a fourth-generation Floridian. She earned a BS degree from Florida State University in Economics and an MS degree from Nova/Southeastern. She worked in the Department of State and the Department of Agriculture in Washington D.C.: The Veterans Administration, and the Air Force in Memphis, TN. After moving back to Florida, she was a teacher in Martin County Schools for 21 years, teaching English, World Geography, and Business. Her last assignment was Occupational Specialist in the Guidance Department at Martin County High School.
After retirement, Margaret and her husband, Walter Axel Peterson, enjoyed traveling to many countries in Europe, Asia, North Africa, and South America, as well as many locations in the U.S.
Margaret had been a member of many organizations, including the Halpatiokee Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and her proven patriots were Charles McCall, SC; John Alderman, NC; David Alderman, NC; George Newman, NC. She also belonged to General J.E.B. Stuart Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy (Lt. Col. Lucas Alexander Church, 3rd Infantry, CSA). Martin County Retired Educators, Friends of the Library, Chapter C1 of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Elks Lodge 1870, and Treasure Coast Singles. She was a member of the Martin County Library Board of Trustees in the 90's. She also authored the book Rambling Around Port Salerno.
Margaret lived a long, happy, and adventurous life. She is survived by her beloved family: her daughter, Pamela Peterson Daly and James T. Daly of Palm City, and her sister Joan Blanton Gallagher of Monroe, Washington. She also leaves her grandchildren, Megan Daly Chapman of Bristow, Virginia; P.J. Daly of Palm City; Erik Peterson of Gardena, California; Paige Peterson Ribera of Morrisville, NC; Haley Peterson of Philadelphia, PA; Ashley Peterson of Austin, TX. She also has two great granddaughters, Peyton and Madalyn Chapman. Her husband of 47 years, Walter Axel Peterson died in 1997; her son, Eric Christopher Peterson died in 2007 at age 49 ; her sister Lucille Blanton Smith died in 2012.
Burial arrangements will be conducted by Martin Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery in Jensen Beach. There will be no service.
