Margaret McHenry Nixon passed away Saturday, July 4, 2020 in her sleep at the age of 95. Margaret, known as Bookie to her family, was born November 23, 1924, to Albert Connell McHenry and Lucille Burgoon McHenry of Mission, Texas.
Margaret graduated from Mission High School in 1943 and worked at Moore Air Base for a few years before attending Business School. Upon returning to Mission, she worked for Bentsen Properties as a bookkeeper for many years where she met and married Paul Nixon and moved to McAllen. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Margaret had been a classmate and friend of Tom Landry, the Cowboy's coach. The Rangers, Spurs, and Aggies were also favorite teams of hers. She also greatly enjoyed her family and friends. Fishing at the Laguna Madre and South Padre was another favorite pastime.
Her parents, Albert and Lucille McHenry, her son, Gary Mac Robbins, and her husband, Paul Nixon, preceded her in death as did her sisters, Darlene Wells, Marion Childress, her brother, Albert C. McHenry, Jr. and his wife Dorothy, and a niece, Karen Hargette. She is survived by her nieces, Patricia Nenette McHenry, Pamela Gayle McHenry Gleeson (Bill), Sherri Tavera, and Mary McIntosh (Ron), as well as several great nephews and nieces.
Margaret was buried July 7, officiated by John Kreidler and attended only by members of her immediate family due to restrictions of the Covid-19 crisis.
