Margaret 'Joan' (Dewire) McKenna, 87, passed away peacefully with family close on July 13, 2022, at Demaree Crossing in Greenwood, IN. Joan was born to Michael and Margaret (Egan) Dewire on October 19, 1934, in Somerville, Massachusetts.
Joan was preceded in death by her much beloved husband John 'Jack' McKenna, Jr and her parents. Joan served as an educator and administrator in Natick and Sudbury, and later at Simmons University, Boston. Joan touched many lives through her years as a dedicated teacher, union representative and principal. Her life-long involvement with the Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA) began as a teenager. She was devoted to the organization and held many local positions and ultimately served as National Regent - a role she truly loved. Her love of travel and adventure brought her all over the world for cherished vacations and memories.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Christine (McKenna) Hardy (Danny) and her adored grandchildren Kenna and Jonathan of Indianapolis, IN. Joan is also survived by her five siblings: James Dewire (Dorothy), Winifred Dewire, Mildred Dewire, Mary (Dewire) Cole (John), and Michael (Eleanor) Dewire, in addition to several nieces and nephews.
Those who knew Joan will never forget her.
Joan will join Jack at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA at a date not yet determined and details to follow.
