Margaret Mary "Dolly" O'Leary Wood
Daughter of Daniel O'Leary & Maud Bridget Egan (of Cork, Ireland), wife of Jerry Wood and mother of Maureen, Geraldeen, Denise, grandma of 5
Margaret Mary O'Leary Wood, known as 'Dolly', was born May 16, 1926, in the Bronx,New York City, although she lived most of her life in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Her parents, Daniel O'Leary (1893-1967) and Maud Bridget Egan O'Leary (1896-1967) immigrated to New York from Cork, Ireland, and were naturalized in 1922 and 1925. She was the last of six children, named Elizabeth (who remained in Ireland), William, Margaret, Michael, Alice, Maud, all born in New York City.
On December 23, 1950, Margaret married Jerry Justin Wood, the only son of Leroy and Irene Wood, of Bloomfield. The couple lived on Spring Street and Orchard Street in Bloomfield, where Jerry worked as a carpenter and a roofer.
Margaret worked for the Bloomfield Public Library and retired thirty years. She was a member of the Victorian Society of Bloomfield and volunteered at the thrift store at the Presbyterian Church on the Green.
Margaret was the wife of the late Jerry Wood for 38 years; mother of Maureen Christensen and her husband, Charles, of Arizona, Geraldeen Wood-Hermann and her husband, William, of California, and Denise Tajral and her husband William, of Weehawken, NJ; sister of Alice Cook and Maude Schaumburg and the late William, Lydia Hedstrom and Michael. She is also survived by five grandchildren Kelly Jay Christensen Demarest, Andrew Justin Christensen, and Katie Dee Christensen Pensinger, twins Trenary and Tenley Tejral, and three great-grandchildren: Penelope Demarest, Ely Charles Pensinger, and Wyatt Gregory Pensinger.
Dolly passed away at age 88, on Monday, March 31, 2014, at Arbor Glen Health Care Center in Cedar Grove, NJ.
Relatives and friends were invited to attend the funeral service at the O'Boyle Funeral Home, 309 Broad St., Bloomfield, NJ, on Wednesday at 10:45 AM. Interment took place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Bloomfield, with Visitation on Wednesday, April 2, from 9:00 AM until time of service.
