Margaret C. Callahan (Margie), lifelong Dalton resident, passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at her home. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.
Daughter of the late Leonard and Frances Callahan, she was a graduate of Wahconah Regional High School, where she was on the National Honor Society and received the National Merit Commendation Letter. Margie received her Bachelor of arts degree from Westfield State College and her Master in fine arts from Assumption College, where she studied at the Sorbonne.
She first taught French at North Junior High (now Reid Middle School) and then taught English at Pittsfield High School. Teaching was a vocation for Margie.
She enjoyed travel pre and post retirement, was an avid reader and dedicated volunteer at the Berkshire Humane Society. Margie was a devotee of movies and live theater. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Agnes Church.
Some of her happiest moments were with family and friends.
She is survived by her sister, Maureen Callahan Wing and husband Gary, nephew, Stephen Wing and wife Kate, and great-nephews, Sean Brown and Damien Wing. She also was beloved by many cousins, relatives and friends.
Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Margaret C. "Margie" Callahan, will be held, WEDNESDAY, July 7, 2021 at 9:15 a.m. from Dery-Foley Funeral Home, 890 E. Main St, Dalton, to St. Agnes Church, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held, TUESDAY, July 6, 2021 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dery-Foley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Berkshire Humane Society or to the Denise Kaley Fund in care of the funeral home.
