Help us celebrate Margaret "Lin"! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Margaret "Lin".
On November 8, 2021, our community sadly lost Margaret "Lin" Folsom, 86, of Anacortes, WA, who passed away peacefully in Anacortes from heart condition complications, with loving family by her side. She will be missed by all who knew her. A Celebration of Life will be held on February 19, 2022, at the Seafarers Memorial Park Bldg., in Anacortes, from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
Lin was born on May 22, 1935, to Margaret (Streit) and Donald Frothingham in Norwalk, CT, and raised in Darien, CT.
She graduated high school from Putney School in Vermont, in 1953. Lin graduated from Reed College in 1957 with her B.A. in Biology and proceeded to achieve her master's degree in Education at the University of Colorado Boulder in 1971. She worked in a variety of biology labs including Berkeley, Washington State University, and the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.
In 1958, she married William Page and had 3 children. True to her adventuresome spirit, she and her husband took the family, including a golden retriever, to Gabes, Tunisia, where they spent a year learning the culture, food, history and exploring the surrounding desert.
Upon return, the family moved to Gold Hill, CO, and then to Niwot, CO, where she worked in water and wastewater treatment for the City of Longmont. She was also very involved in the Hunter/Jumper sport with her favorite horse, Code. In 1989, Lin moved to Arlington, WA. before retiring from the City of Lynnwood.
She then moved to Anacortes, WA, and never looked back. She loved the water and couldn't get enough. She loved wooden boats and was a board member of the Center for Wooden Boats for many years. Sailing her wooden sailboat, Myrica, was her favorite pastime for years.
Lin loved everything about Anacortes and was involved in the Kiwanis Club, Anacortes Yacht Club, OARS, Anacortes Planning Commission, Anacortes Senior Center, the quilting club and more. One of the most inspiring and life changing organizations for Lin was N.A.M.I., National Alliance for The Mentally Ill. Her volunteer work through Family to Family, C.T.I. Training, and other N.A.M.I. outreach programs greatly affected her life, and she took great joy in helping others through her work. She loved life and gave it her all. She was a world traveler and sailor and would drop everything for a new adventure. You could count on her to add zest, sparkle, and fun to any occasion.
Lin is survived by her son, Edward Page of Anacortes; daughter Leah (Allan) Burke of Linton, ND; daughter, Margaret Stroble of Anchorage, AK; grandson, Frederick Burke of Sammamish, WA; granddaughter, Margaret (Alex) Koepsell; great granddaughter, Jade Koepsell; and great grandson, Odin Koepsell, all of Crookston, MN; half-brother Donald (Ann) Frothingham Jr. of Seattle, WA; nieces: Molly Frothingham of Port Angeles, WA and Elinor Frothingham of Kingston, WA. She was preceded in death by half-brother Edward Frothingham and parents.
A special thank you to all who helped assist her in her final days, Hospice of the NW, Soundview Rehabilitation, Rosario Assisted Living Center, and to her many friends who made her laugh until her last peaceful breath. May she rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to N.A.M.I., National Alliance for The Mentally Ill.
