Kwapil, Margaret (Marg Ed) Conn, passed away in her sleep on August 15th, 2022, just two weeks shy of her 91st birthday. Born and raised in Green Mountain Falls, CO, Marg Ed received a BA in Journalism from the University of Missouri. A lifelong feminist, after college Marg Ed accepted a position at a newspaper in Freeport, IL because it was the only paper where women were paid equal to men. It was in Freeport she met her future husband, Raymond Kwapil. After relocating to Grand Rapids, Ray took a position at the Grand Rapids Press where he eventually became the editorial page editor. During the 1970s Marg Ed worked as the communications director at the newly established Women's Resource Center before becoming a founding partner in the editorial management firm, Editorial Consultants. Marg Ed and Ray became supporters of numerous community non-profits and arts organizations including the Public Museum where she served on the Friends of the Public Museum Board for many years. Marg Ed and Ray were passionate supporters of Actors Theater, West Michigan Jazz Society, and in particular the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Meyer May House. If that didn't keep her busy enough, she earned a "Master Gardener" certificate from Michigan State University and, as an obsessive quilter, was a member of the West Michigan Quilters Society. Marg Ed was immensely curious about the world around her and was a voracious reader amassing an impressive collection of books that ranged from world religions, to history, politics, social economics, theater, art, design, and every aspect of the human condition, and of course.... quilting. Marg Ed was preceded in death by husband Ray Kwapil, her sister Mary Ann Conn Davis and brother Malcolm Conn IV, both of Green Mt. Falls, CO, and is survived by son Gary Conn of Grand Haven, MI, son Bryan Kwapil and son-in-law Rodney Kenel of Milwaukee, WI, and son Jeffrey Kwapil of Milwaukee WI, in addition to nephew Craig Burdick of Sarasota FL, brother in-law Jack Davis of Green Mt. Falls, CO, and nieces Katie Gardner of Cascade CO, Laurie Waalkes of Denver CO, and Shelley Davis of Denver CO. A Celebration of Life event will be scheduled at a later date.
