Margaret H. Traylor of Austin, Texas, formerly of Dallas, passed away on October 10, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. Margaret was born June 5, 1932 in Greenville, Mississippi to John Laney and Willie Pierce Holmes. She graduated from Greenville High School and married John Edward Traylor in June 1950. Margaret and John moved to Dallas, along with her parents, in January 1953, beginning her long career in the Hematology Lab at Baylor Hospital. With the birth of her son, John Pierce Traylor, in 1957, followed by her daughter, Donna, in 1961, Margaret reduced her hours at Baylor Hospital. She enthusiastically concentrated on providing a loving home for her children and parents, along with becoming active in her community. Margaret joined the George W. Truett Pre-School PTA in 1958, and continued her PTA service for the next 21 years until Donna graduated from Bryan Adams in 1979. She was always willing to tackle any position or project, including serving as president of the pre-school PTA, as well as Truett Elementary's PTA twice. Margaret believed that, "Our children and youth deserve the best in education, but the best can be achieved only if parents and educators join hands in a united effort." Margaret made many lifelong friends through her involvement in PTA, Baylor Medical Center, Cub Scout leadership, Atlasta Book Review, neighborhood bridge club, and Lakeside Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member from 1957 until 2011 when Margaret moved to Austin to be near her daughter's family. After her children left for college, Margaret increased her hours back to full-time until she retired from Baylor in December 1994 after 41 years of dedicated service. Though she loved her work at Baylor, she was thrilled to have more time to spend with her grandchildren. Margaret was ecstatic to become a grandmother, although she preferred to be called Nonnie. Her first grandchild, Christine, was born on her birthday in 1989, which she said was the best present anyone could receive. Grandson Mitchell followed in June 1993 and Margaret's love for them was limitless. Margaret, Christine, and Mitchell celebrated 31 wonderful birthdays together. Margaret enjoyed her retirement years sleeping late, outings with her many friends, her monthly book review and bridge groups, dinners with her friends from Baylor Medical Center at Snuffer's, and trips with friends and family (especially her beloved brother, Walter Laney Holmes). There were countless trips between Austin and Dallas full of great meals, delicious desserts, fun activities, and of course lots of laughs! In 2011, due to declining vision and health, Margaret moved to Austin to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She loved being able to see her grandchildren and son-in-law every weekend, and Donna every day. She enjoyed hearing her grandkids' stories about what was going on in their lives. They were able to enjoy nine more years of holidays, everyday joys, and cherished moments together. Due to the current social distancing measures, a private ceremony with her son and daughter's family will be held at Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park. If you would like to share some words of love or a special memory about Margaret, you may do so on Restland's Obituary Website. Should you wish to make a memorial contribution, please donate to the ASPCA or a charity of your choice.
