Margaret Louise Vinsek Downs
December 12, 1934 - March 8, 2022
Surrounded by her Family, Margaret Louise (Pegge) Vinsek Downs, age 87, beloved wife, mother, gran and gigi, of Sweetwater TN, went home victoriously to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday March 8, at her home in Wood Village.
Born December 12, 1934 to Norabelle Vinsek, she was raised near Greensburg, PA by her Uncle Frank and Aunt Janet Vinsek. On December 31, 1951, she married Gerald E. Downs of Mammoth, PA, and together they forged a vital, multi-state ministry that would span several decades. Rev. Downs predeceased his wife in 1997.
Earning her degree in Nursing, she offered her heart of compassion in providing care to her patients in Georgia, Florida, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. She filled her non-working hours raising and teaching her children about God, playing the piano for her Church, singing, crocheting, dancing and making friends easily most everywhere, reaching always to the forgotten ones.
She is survived by her children, a daughter, Bonnie D. Harr (Dennis) of Bellefonte, PA; a son; Rev. Gerald E. Downs (Melody) of Sweetwater, TN; her three Grandchildren, Jaime Downs, Ben Downs (Carey), and Brian Harr (Alexis), who were the source of her pride and joy; her four great-grandchildren, Cooper, Josiah, Anna Kate and Franklin, her sister, Martha Rhodes (Barry) of Scottdale, PA, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by her sister, Nora McKlveen in 2008.
On Thursday March 10, Visitation with Family is from 5-7pm at Kyker Funeral Homes in Sweetwater, with the funeral following at 7pm. Dr. John A. Looper and Rev. JC Allen will preside. A private Graveside Service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant PA. At her request, Memorial contributions may be directed to SonRise Assembly of God, 1740 Hwy. 411, Suite 7-9, Vonore, TN 37885, designated to the Church Assistance Fund, for the purpose of helping those in need.
Arrangements are under the care of Kyker Funeral Homes, Sweetwater TN and Jay A. Hoffer Funeral Home, Norvelt PA.
