Margaret (Peggy) Nicholson passed away at age 93 in Lady Lake, Florida on February 2, 2021. Margaret Mary Donnelly was born in Staten Island, New York, on August 18, 1927. Her parents John and Nora (O'Callaghan) were both born in Ireland and Peggy was a beautiful Irish Rose. She grew up in Mineola and Hempstead, NY and graduated from Bishop McDonnell High School in 1945, which she attended with her lifelong friend Bernadette (Mickey) Spears O'Brien. At age 18, she met Robert V. Nicholson (Bob) and they were married on September 13, 1947. Together they raised 6 children, living first in Levittown and then West Islip, NY before moving to Florida.
Peggy was a devout Catholic. She was a dedicated volunteer with the National Alliance on Mental Illness, both on Long Island and in Florida. She was also a gifted singer and enjoyed playing her guitar and ukulele. Peggy remained an optimist her entire life and lived her life with joy. She was predeceased by her 3 brothers, James, John and Fred. She is dearly missed by her husband and friend of more than 75 years, Bob, and by her 6 children: Linda N. Howe (Greg); Terese A. Nicholson; Lani J. Nicholson (David Stormberg); Margaret N. Greenman; Robert V. Nicholson, Jr. and James G. Nicholson; as well as her grandchildren Margaret, Ingrid, Rebecca, Matthew, Steven, Christopher, Samantha and Noah; and her great-grandchildren Michael, Sarah Margaret, Andrew, Greta and Celie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In Florida, visiting hours will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Beyers Funeral Home, 134 N US Highway 441, Lady Lake, FL 32159, (352) 753-4444, followed by a Funeral Mass on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 8:30 a.m. at St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Lady Lake, FL.
On Long Island, the family will receive visitors on Sunday, February 14, 2021 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Arthur F. White Funeral Home - Bethpage, 234 Broadway, Bethpage, NY 11714 (516) 931-1454, with burial at Pinelawn Memorial Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY on Tuesday, February 16, 2021.
