Marcia McCune, 88, passed away November 22, 2021 in Dallas, Texas. Marcia was born on June 26, 1933 in Denver, Colorado to Helen (Hill) and Donald Weese.
An avid horsewoman, Marcia grew up riding her prized palomino, Jake's Golden Joe, in the mountains of Colorado. She attended East High School in Denver and went on to graduate from Colorado College with a degree in Zoology. She was a member Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Marcia met Leo McCune at Colorado College, and they married in 1956. While Leo was in the Army stationed in Baltimore, Maryland, they welcomed daughter, Meghan. Timothy and Peter were born following the couple's return to Denver. Leo and Marcia settled in Dallas, Texas, and celebrated their 49th anniversary prior to Leo's death in 2006.
Marcia is lovingly remembered as a dedicated wife and mother, wonderful cook and baker, and a collector of antiques. She devoted many years to the early morning walking group at the Town North YMCA, where in later years she served as a volunteer. In 2002 she was awarded Volunteer of the Year.
Marcia is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leo McCune, and brother, Roderick Weese. She is survived by her brother, Donald Weese, and wife Kay of Surprise, Arizona; her children, daughter, Meghan Shaw, and husband Kelly, and children, Caroline and Samuel of Austin, Texas; son, Timothy McCune, and wife Kristin, and children, Kendall, Colin and Regan of Dallas, Texas; and son, Peter McCune, and wife Karen, of Schlangenbad, Germany. Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to caregivers, Gloria Hurd and Kutoma Lubasi, for their love and support over the last 15 years.
A memorial and celebration of her life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Town North YMCA, or the YMCA of your choice.
