Marcel A. "Mac" Plante, 94, of Salem and a former resident of Plaistow and New London, died March 23, at Salem Woods.
Born, raised and educated in Manchester, NH, son of the late Aime and Eva (Gelinas) Plante, he attended Saint Anthony's Grammar School and High School. A veteran of World War Two, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age seventeen and served aboard the USS Towhee as an Electrician's Mate 3rd Class. He was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, The American Area Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Medal and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Mr. Plante enjoyed a long career in tele-communications, beginning his employment at New England Telephone, and later was employed by Western Electric Co., AT & T Technologies, Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies and finally Wang Laboratories until his retirement.
Moving to Plaistow in 1956, where he raised his family, Mac was active in town affairs and events and served as Chairman of the School Board and Building Committee for the Timberlane Regional High School, and at the time of his death, was the last surviving member of the committee. He was also a member of the Carl Davis Post of the American Legion in Plaistow.
In 1982, Mac and his wife, "Ginnie" relocated to New London, NH, and he served as an Adjunct Instructor in Telephone Technology at Colby Sawyer College. He also began his association with the NH Telephone Museum in Warner, NH, contributing and constructing numerous displays.
An accomplished cook, an avid reader and student of history, he enjoyed completing the New York Times crossword puzzles and listening to Big Band and Classical music. He was a huge Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots fan and also enjoyed traveling across Northern, Western, Eastern and Southern Europe, as well as taking in cruises all aver the Caribbean and Central America.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his loving wife of seventy years, Virginia "Ginnie" (Silva) Plante, three sons, Stephen J. Plante and his significant other Sally Roach of Seattle, WA, Philip C. Plante and his wife Theresa of Hampstead, Mark A. Plante and his significant other Glenna Amero of Methuen, two daughters, Paula M. Plante of Tewksbury, MA, and Anne P. Miller and her husband Stephen of Lynn, MA; two brothers, Bernard Plante of Manchester, NH and Normand Plante of Bedford, NH; six grandchildren, Jessica, Matthew, Bryan, Renee, Valerie and Stephanie: nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Andrew Plante.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mac's Life Celebration to be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. A family burial service with military honors will be held in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the New Hampshire Telephone Museum, 1 Depot St., Warner, NH.
