Mrs. Malivia Coker "Libby" Mitchum, 90, widow of Gerald David Mitchum, died Thursday, April 28, 2022, at her residence.
Mrs. Mitchum was born February 27, 1932, in Hebron, SC, a daughter of the late Olive Altman Coker and William Alva Coker. She was a graduate of Hebron High School, where she excelled in basketball. She worked for Santee Electric Cooperative for 31 years. Miss Libby was a member of Kingstree First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Rainbow Sunday School Class and taught the 8-9 year old Sunday school class for 20 years with her husband Gerald. She was a member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed cooking, collecting cookbooks, baking cakes, sewing, and painting the woodwork her husband made. In addition to her parents and husband, Miss Libby was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Coker and a sister, Varner Coker Hanna.
Surviving Miss Libby are: her sister, Hermal June Coker, her brother-in-law, Tommy Mitchum and his wife Diane, and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held 3:30 PM, Saturday, April 30, 2022, in Kingstree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery. The family would like to thank Regency Southern Care, especially Connie Williams, Sheila McKenzie, Erica Wilkes and Rev. Leo Chatman.
