Having served his Lord and Savior for 95 years on Earth, Malcolm Lee Watson, Sr. went to his heavenly home on August 17, 2024. He is now reunited with his wife, Maxine Patrick Watson, with whom he shared 59 precious years. Malcolm was born in Dallas, Texas, on November 3, 1928 to Houston B. Watson and Jewel Trammell. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1946. In 1947 Malcolm joined Watson Electric Supply Company, a business newly founded by his father and his uncle, Austin Watson. Malcolm helped manage the family business for over 50 years and became a well-known leader in the electrical distribution industry. He served in many capacities, including president of the Dallas Electric Club, the Greater Dallas Electrical League, and the National Association of Electrical Distributors, which awarded him its honorary life membership in 1998. Malcolm's electrical industry career took a two-year break from 1950-1952 when he served as a US Army radio repairman during the Korean War. He remained a fervent patriot throughout life and often flew large American flags at his home and business. On his Christmas leave in 1951, Malcolm married Maxine, and upon his discharge, they settled in Tyler, Texas, where he managed Watson Electric's branch store. Later they moved to Waco, then back to Dallas for many years before retiring to their lake home in Lindale, Texas. An avid reader, Malcolm always surrounded himself with more books than their home could reasonably hold. Maxine encouraged him to give away as many books as possible, which he enthusiastically did before buying more to give away! Unknown to many, Malcolm was a skilled cartoon artist. He enjoyed entertaining children with funny drawings. The only thing more important to Malcolm than his family was his relationship with Jesus, whom he accepted as Savior at age twelve. He was ordained as a Baptist deacon in 1954 and taught men's Bible study in local churches wherever he lived, including Hillcrest Baptist Church in Waco, Casa View Baptist Church in Dallas, and First Baptist Church of Lindale. Malcolm enthusiastically shared the Gospel with his words, example, and giving. He participated in countless local revivals and mission endeavors, as well as in international mission trips to England, Ecuador, the Philippines, Malta, Ghana, Costa Rica, and Uganda. Malcolm volunteered with Texas Baptist Men Disaster Relief and served as a board member for Dallas Baptist University, International Commission and the Texas Baptist Missions Foundation. He was a committed prayer warrior, strong supporter of missions and found great joy in serving the Lord in every area of his life. His life was a living example of his faith. Throughout his life, Malcolm always looked forward to gatherings with his large, blended family, all of whom he loved dearly. He will be missed by the many family members he leaves behind: children Beverly Thomas and husband Ken, Malcolm Watson Jr. and wife Cheryl; Cindy Burr and husband David; Patrick Watson and wife Grace; sisters Suzanne Green, Kathleen Tubbesing and husband Jim; sisters-in-law Anita Patrick, Brigitte Watson, Jory Watson; cousin Tony Watson and wife Jane; grandchildren Amanda Moore and husband Jay, Steven Moore, Sarah Biglin and husband Jeff, Phillip Watson and wife Megan, Laura Ballew and husband Jeremy, Rebecca Cullen and husband Travis, Marcy Nanney and husband J.T., Tracy Martin, and Callen Sefcik; great-grandchildren Tatum, Jillian, Allie, Ryan, Kamille, Madison,Tyler, Carter, Jemma, Gracie, Kaleah, Kayla, Luisa, Waylon, Bristol, Sasha, Taylor, Riley, Avery, Cash, Willie and Asher; great-nieces Pendley and Parker as well as many more cousins, nieces and nephews who all enjoyed gathering at Malcolm's country home.
