William Curtis "Robbie" Robinson of Lubbock died on June 3, 2023. Born on August 31, 1951 in Wichita Falls, Texas, he was the second child and oldest son of William Ernest "Bill" Robinson and Alta Florene "Flo" (Pippin) Robinson. His father was a civil service flight instructor whose job took the family to Honda and San Antonio, Texas; Winter Haven, Florida; and Dothan, Alabama, where Curt attended school through the 11th grade. In 1969, he graduated from Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, where the family had moved the year before.
Curt attended Texas Tech University and obtained a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1973 and enrolled in the US Air Force ROTC . He entered the Air Force upon graduation and attended navigator school at Mather Air Force Base, California. He served as a C-130 Navigator; duty assignments were at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas and Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska. Curt served in the Air Force for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Major in 1993. After retirement, he completed a B.S. degree in Geology at Texas Tech University.
For many years prior to his death, Curt lived in Lubbock with his partner, Ann Proske. He was kind, generous, and honorable. He loved camping, panning for gold, Texas Tech baseball, tinkering with his electronics, collecting HO scale trains and rock hounding. He also loved salads, Der Wienerschnitzel Deluxe dogs, and ice cream. He shared his life with a succession of beloved dogs. In 2013, he started raising dachshund puppies which have been adopted into households from Lubbock to Dallas, San Antonio, and New York City.
Curt was predeceased by his parents and by his older sister, Margery Hester. He is survived by his younger sister, Rosemary Williams and her husband, Lee Williams, M.D.; his younger brother, John Patrick Robinson; nephews John "Jack" Hester and wife Amy, Curtis and Harrison Williams; and a niece Kimberly Hester. He is also survived by Fritz and Freida and "granddog" Junior.
Graveside services will be Monday, June 12, 2023 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene. His family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, June 11, 2023 at Sanders Funeral Home-Lubbock.
