Mrs. Madge Lanier Reames, 95, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at NHC, North Augusta, SC.
Mrs. Reames was preceded in death by her husband, James Samuel Reames, her parents, her seven siblings and her son-in-law, Rev. Kenneth Garvin.
Mrs. Reames was born in Metter, GA and was the fifth of eight children born to George and Bulah Lanier. She helped work on the family farm but as a young adult moved to Aiken County to work for United Merchants at Bath Mill. That is where she met and later married her husband Sam Reames and they made Bath, SC, their home. After the birth of their first child she became a full time homemaker, but later re-entered the workforce for the Aiken County Public School System where she was a Teacher's Aide/Reading Tutor at Bath Elementary and Jefferson Elementary.
Her passion was children and not just her own. She kept several children in her home, loved her many nieces and nephews and doted on her grand and great-grandchildren. After the birth of her first grandchild, she forever became known as nanny.
Mrs. Reames was a talented self-taught Seamstress and spent many Saturdays browsing the latest fashions at local department stores, then re-creating them at her home for her daughters.... many times without using a pattern. From prom dresses, Halloween costumes, cheerleading uniforms and wedding gowns, there was nothing she could not sew.
She was a faithful member of Bath First Baptist Church where she served many years in the preschool department, was a Deacon's wife, was on the teller committee, the benevolence committee, a member of the women's missionary union and a founding member of the senior adult Joy group.
Survivors include her daughters,
Robin Reames Martin (Don) of Graniteville, SC and Pamela Reames Waller (Charles) of Graniteville, SC; grandchildren, Monica Garvin Wells (Don) of North Augusta, SC, Adam Waller (Emily Thompson) of Aiken, SC, Grant Waller, of Guyton, GA and Lee Waller (Sarah) of Simpsonville, SC; great-grandchildren, Henry Wells, Andrew Wells, Jones Wells, Walker Wells and Haven Waller.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021, at 11 o'clock in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC. Pastor Herb Sons will officiate.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the entire staff at NHC-North Augusta (especially the Camilla Wing) for the care and compassion they provided for the past eight plus years.
If so desired, memorials may be made to the Children's Ministry at Bath First Baptist Church P.O. Box 240, Bath, SC 29816.
