Madeline McNair Harper, 81, was born on November 15, 1939 in Hartsville, South Carolina to Frances and Carl McNair and passed away peacefully on October 17, 2021. She graduated Williston Elko High School and Columbia College. One of her favorite framed needlepoints on the wall of her home read: "To love and be loved is the greatest joy on earth". She loved others and was loved greatly in return. "Manna" as she was known by her grandchildren, especially loved her family and many friends. She enjoyed singing in the choir, gardening, cooking, and playing bridge. She was known for her sweetness, thoughtfulness and kindness to others. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Carl Mikell Harper. She is survived by her daughter, Frances Harper Hill (Angus) of Atlanta, Georgia, and their children, Graham Hill and Madeline Hill; her son, Frampton L. Harper, II (Mary Heyward), of Beaufort, South Carolina, and their children, Lawton Harper (Katie) and Luke Harper; her daughter in law Anna Katherine Harper of Beaufort, and their children, Henry Harper and Kate Harper; and her sister, Jean Frederick (Phil) of Williston, South Carolina, along with other extended family and her many friends.
A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 21 at the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery, Ellenton Street (US 278) with Dr. Stephen Burnette officiating. The family will arrive early at 10:00 to welcome and visit prior to the service.
Also, after the service, the family will receive family and friends at The Parish Church of St. Helena Parish Hall, 507 Newcastle Street, Beaufort, South Carolina from 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
