It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved Lynn Michael Callahan, 73, who passed away on June 26, 2021. Lynn, a lifelong resident of Akron, brought joy and laughter to all who knew him.
Lynn was born July 29, 1947, to Paul and Margaret Callahan. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents and brother David. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Jo-Ann (Hall). He was Superhero to his daughter Michelle (Tim) Harvey; son Brian (Lori) Callahan; grandchildren Corey, Brianna, Liam, Olivia, and Finn. He is also survived by brothers Tim, Paul (Debbie), John (Susanne), and sisters Mary (Jeff) Morgan, and Kathleen (Frank) Livak. He leaves behind many brothers- and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends Fred, Blaine, and Rick, who dearly loved him.
After graduating from Ellet High School, Lynn attended the University of Akron, where he was a member of the Lone Star fraternity. After his education, Lynn joined the Akron Police Department, which he served proudly for "41 years, 3 months, 20 days, but who's counting?" He retired as Captain on January 21, 20ll, after serving as S.W.A.T. and shift commander. In the words of then-F.O.P. president Paul Hlynsky, "The troops would follow Lynn into hell to fight Satan for him."
He was a member of Visitation of Mary Parish (formerly Annunciation), Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the F.O.P. Lodge #7. Lynn was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family.
Calling hours are Thursday, July 1, 5-8 p.m. at Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home, 811 Grant Street, Akron where the A.O.H. will recite the Rosary at 7:45. Mass of Christian Burial is Friday, July 2, at 11 a.m. at Visitation of Mary Parish, 87 Broad Street, Akron. Burial is at Holy Cross Cemetery immediately following. Donations in Lynn's honor may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America Buckeye Chapter, Visitation of Mary Parish, or Friends of Ibumba c/o Visitation of Mary Parish.
"Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away to the next room. I am I and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, that, we still are. Call me by my old familiar name. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without an effort. Without the trace of a shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you. For an interval. Somewhere. Very near. Just around the corner. All is well." -Henry Scott Holland
