Lydia Barrientes Walker, age 73, of Johnson City, Texas, passed away on August 23, 2024, in Fredericksburg, Texas.
Lydia was born on February 7, 1951 in Fredericksburg, Texas to parents, Leon and Maria Barrientes. She was a graduate of LBJ High School, of Johnson City, Texas. After graduation, she would attend Durham Business School, of Austin, Texas, specializing in Executive Administration. While pursuing her education in Austin, Lydia would meet the love of life, William Michael (Mike) Walker. Mike and Lydia married October 15, 1971.
The following year, Lydia would give birth to twin girls, Michelle Marie and Jennifer Lee. After several years of living in Paris, Texas, Lydia would give birth to Joseph Donald Walker. While raising her three children, Lydia would pursue a career as a teacher at Aikin Elementary.
In 1987, Mike and Lydia would return to the Texas Hill Country to raise their three children closer to family. Lydia, though a stay-at-home mom, provided childcare not only to her many nieces and nephews, but to other children of the Johnson City area.
Lydia was preceded in death by her father, Leon Barrientes, and husband, William Michael Walker.
She is survived by her loving children, Michelle and Roy Burdett of Johnson City, Jennifer Shumake of New Braunfels, and Joseph and Kristi Walker of Johnson City; her mother, Mary Barrientes; surviving siblings, Emma and husband Rudy Buentello of Johnson City, Rita and husband Curt Summy of Johnson City, Joe Barrientes of Fredericksburg, Ruby Heavner of Johnson City, and Robert and Tina Barrientes of Columbus, Ohio.
Lydia is survived by six grandchildren, Lawson Shumake, Sarah Dennis, Kendalyn Burdett, Madalyn Walker, Jackson and Brooklyn Walker and her two great-grandchildren, Sawyer Grace Dennis and Penelope Shumake. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and many dear friends.
A celebration of life honoring Lydia was held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2024 in the Chapel of Crofts-Crow Funeral Home, Johnson City, Texas.
