"Everything happens for a reason...I need you to let go of my death. ...Remember my life...you have got tomorrow to look forward to and so many tomorrow's after. This is my happy ending..."
On August 18, 1952, I was born in San Antonio Texas. I was the fifth child out of fourteen children born to Martin Cortez and Dora Alonzo.
On February 10, 2021 in San Antonio Texas, I was called home to my eternal resting place. Waiting to welcome me to my heavenly home, my father Martin Cortez Sr., my siblings, Richard Cortez, Paula Mackowiak, Hope Cortez, Sylvia Bustos, and Hortencia Mancha. I was raised in Odessa, Texas and graduated from Odessa High School in 1970. I started my career with Southwestern Bell Telephone in Odessa, Texas as a switchboard operator. After 23 years, I retired from AT&T in Austin Texas. I then continued my employment with St. David's Hospital as a telephone operator in Austin, before settling in San Antonio due to health issues.
The organization I was most passionate about was the Odessa Girl Scouts where I volunteered for 12 years. My favorite past time was spending time outdoors, gardening, and keeping up with my plants. In my retirement years, I enjoyed crafting, fishing, and trying my luck at the slot machines. I had a great love for animals, and I was a proud supporter of the ASPCA.
Those left to preserve my memories include: my brother Martin Cortez Jr., sisters; Yolanda and husband Elyceo Herrera, Rosie and husband Mike Silva, Elvia and husband Jose Munoz, Frances Hernandez, Lisa Cortez and Brenda Cortez all of Odessa; also, Connie Delgado of San Antonio, Texas. I leave behind numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. I am immensely thankful for the outpouring love and support throughout my life of family and friends.
Those carrying me to my final resting place on this earth will be pall bearers:
Sebastian E Mancha
Christian E Mancha
