PLYMOUTH, MN - Luther Forde, age 95, of Plymouth, MN passed away on May 18, 2020. He was born in Viroqua, WI, on April 5, 1925, the son of Ole and Lydia Forde, and grew up on a farm in rural Ferryville, WI. Luther attended a country school for eight years and graduated from high school in Lansing, IA in 1942. He attended Luther College in Decorah, IA, for one year, then served in the U. S. Navy until 1946, before returning to Luther College and graduating in 1949 with degrees in Mathematics and Physics. In 1951 Luther received a Master's Degree in Math Sciences from the University of Iowa. Since 1951, Luther lived in the Minneapolis area. In 1957 he married Ilene Knutson and together they had three children: John, Jim, and Martha. Luther was an Insurance Actuary, a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He was a long-time employee of Lutheran Brotherhood (now Thrivent) where he was an Actuary and held various administrative positions. He was a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church in Plymouth, MN.
Luther is survived by his wife, Ilene; sons: John (Catherine Reid Day) and Jim (Sandra Willson); son-in-law, Paul Nesheim; grandchildren: Kara Forde, Luther "Lute" and Linnea Nesheim, and Steven (Stacy) Willson; great-grandchildren: Cora, Nolan and Freya Willson; and two sisters: Gladys Nash and Elaine Larson.
In addition to his parents, Luther was preceded in death by his daughter, Martha; and his brother, Kermit.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on August 14, 2021 at the South West Prairie Lutheran Church Cemetery, Viroqua, WI. Memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church (3695 Cty. Rd. 101, Plymouth, MN 55446), Luther College, or to any charity of the Donor's Choice. Thorson-Popp Funeral and Cremation Services in Viroqua is assisting the family with arrangements.
