Luella Jane Loud Norman, age 89, of Lilburn, Georgia, passed away where she wanted to be, at her home, on Saturday, May 20th, 2023. She is preceded in death, in addition to her parents; by her husband, James H. Norman; her sisters, Julia Ann (Judy) Johnson, Delina Loud Harris and Grace Hardinger, her brothers, Lawrence John Loud, Robert Joseph Loud, and Paul Frederick Loud. She is the last of her siblings to pass away. She is survived by her sons, James (Jimmy) William Norman, (wife, Sue), and John Michael (Mike) Norman, (wife, Carleen); she is also survived by the grandchildren who loved their "Mimi", David Norman, Jessica Brantley, Jennifer Norman, and Jordan Monacelli; and her great-grandchildren, Skyler, Jonny, Clyde, and Anthony. Lu was born April 25, 1934, in Gordon, West Virginia. She often told colorful stories of growing up in West Virginia as the youngest of 6 siblings. When she was very young, she contracted polio, which affected one of her legs. She loved to swim, to sled in the snow, to study, and to read. She was involved in the 4-H Club, her church, and played saxophone in the high school band. Lu graduated from Scott High School in Madison, West Va. in 1952, and from Morris Harvey College in Charleston, West Va.in 1956. She was hired as a private secretary in the West Virginia Attorney General's office. Later she worked for accounting firms, law firms, and for a judge. She worked for the Secretary of the State of Georgia, primarily with the State Examining Board and the Pharmaceutical Board from 1981 until she retired in 1995. Lu was the Youth Director at Suburban Lanes Bowling Center in Decatur, Ga. in the 1980's and 1990's. She was a member of the Lincoln Continental Owners club where she served as Director. In 1969, she married Jim Norman, and they were married until his death in 2002. With Jim, she enjoyed bowling, camping with the boys, being a baseball team Mom, celebrating Christmas, cooking big meals, going to dirt-track races and gospel singings, and watching the Atlanta Braves. After retirement, they liked to show off their 1969 Continental Coupe named "Baby" at car shows, work on their business - GMS Audio, take long trips around the United States, and have fun with their grandchildren. Lu will be remembered as a strong, intellectual, spunky, and warm woman who had a quick wit and who valued education, her country, her Christian faith, and her family. She was a great conversationalist and she loved with all of her heart. The memorial service to honor the life of Luella J. Norman was held on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel, Snellville, GA. Burial will take place at a later date, at her family's plot in Boone Memorial Park in Madison, West Virginia.
