Lucille G. (Carey) Wheeler, 91, of Lost Horizon Road, died in the early morning of Thursday, June 24, 2021 at her home.
She was born in Manchester Center, VT on August 30, 1929 the daughter of Bernard and Gladys (Abbott) Carey.
After moving to Sunapee, NH at a very young age, Lucille graduated from Sunapee High School. She met her late husband of 71 years, Kneiland A. Wheeler (who died in 2019), at Sunapee Harbor. They married and lived in Springfield, where they raised their family. They moved to Pittsburg, NH about 37 years ago.
While in Springfield, she worked at; Colby-Sawyer College in the Housekeeping Department, was librarian for 20 years at the Libbie Cass Memorial Library in Springfield, was a Deputy Sheriff for Sullivan County, and was Assistant Manager of Blue Mountain Forest for 25 years while her husband had been the Superintendent there. While working at Blue Mountain she kept the weather station where she recorded the temperature and rainfall. Lucille was a member of the NH Farm Bureau.
A talented seamstress, she would make clothing for their children when they were younger. She also would perform alterations to their clothing purchased from local stores. She liked to fish and read many books throughout the years. Tending to her houseplants brought her joy. Lucille and Kneiland liked to square dance and polka. They won first place one year while square dancing on a float at Hopkinton Fair. She just loved her cats having had many over the years.
Lucille is predeceased by her parents, her husband and her son, Kneiland "Dennis" Wheeler Jr. in 2004. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Susan and Keith Cutting of Springfield, NH and Kim and Kevin Herro of White River Junction, VT; grandchildren, Andy, Beth, David, Dennis, Derek, Justin, Karen, Kelley, Kevin, and Kyle; 15 great grandchildren; a brother, Bernard "Sonny" Carey, Jr. and a sister and her husband, Cathy and Chuck Dikeman all of Springfield, VT; nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in Pleasant View Cemetery, Springfield, NH. A gathering will follow after at the Springfield Townhall.
