Lucille R. Thomann, 96, of Surfside Beach, SC passed away on Tuesday, April, 30, 2024. Born October 6, 1927 in Akron, Ohio, she was the daughter of Ellis Joseph Shaheen and Freda Abraham Shaheen. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. Thomann; daughter-in-law, Linda; 5 sisters and a sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her son Rich Thomann and his fianc?, Ginger Pope, of Jacksonville FL; daughter, Cynthia McLaughlin and her husband, Dave, of Surfside Beach, SC, both whom provided her loving care; brother Fred Shaheen; five granddaughters and 12 great-grandchildren; and life partner, Don McHugh.
Lucille, widowed at the age of 25 with 2 small children, worked full time until the age of 88, finally retiring as an operator with AAA in Akron. She fiercely loved her family. Being athletic, she spent the last 30 years of her life getting much pleasure hiking the trails of Ohio's state parks system, making many friends along the way. Rain, sleet, ice and snow hardly stopped her. A die-hard Notre Dame fan, she would plan her Saturday hikes in the fall around their televised schedule. Lucille adored those that provided her care including her nurse Laura, and aide, Angela, from Tidelands Hospice as well as her caregiver, Tay.
A funeral mass will be held 1:00pm Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Akron, Ohio followed by inurnment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
