Ann B. Teague, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and teacher, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2022, in Winston-Salem, NC after an extended illness. Ann was born in Heath Springs, SC on June 12, 1938 to Beuna Estelle Sturgis and Lucius Alston Blackmon. She developed her strong, independent spirit early in life from her widowed mother and older sisters. Ann loved school and was an avid reader. She graduated from Heath Springs High School as valedictorian and received a degree in elementary education from Winthrop College where she was a Byrnes Scholar, editor of the newspaper, and a member of the Senior Order. Ann loved sharing her joy of learning with her students, and her career in teaching had a profound impact on those she encountered. She taught for over 40 years in the Mecklenburg and Gaston County schools, first as a classroom teacher and later as a reading specialist. She was active in her professional circle as a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Outside of her professional career, Ann served as a faithful member of Myers Memorial UMC, participating over the years in choir, Council on Ministries, Joy Circle, and numerous other committees. She most loved spending time with her family, especially during holidays, annual beach trips, travels, and summers hosting "Camp Mama." She was above all a loving guide and support for her children, grandchildren, and friends throughout her life serving as their biggest cheerleader.
She is survived by her children Lauren Teague Wierman (Scott) of Hilton Head, SC, Charles "Chuck" Burton Teague (Richelle) of Columbus, GA, Mary "Molly" Teague Bond of Bishop, GA, grandchildren Mary Beth, Abby, John, Nicholas, Emily, Benjamin, Christopher, and great-grandchild, Fred. She is predeceased by her sisters Mary Rose Blackmon Lundy and Jean Blackmon Rowell.
A service will be held at Myers Memorial UMC in Gastonia, NC on Saturday, February 19th at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Sally W. Queen officiating, following a graveside service at Rich Hill Baptist Church, Heath Springs, SC at 10:00 a.m. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Salemtowne and Trellis Supportive Care for their compassionate care through the final years of Ann's life in Winston-Salem.
