A Celebration of Loyd Gene Hamilton's Life, age 79, of Jasper, Texas, will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 21, 2021 at Ebenezer Baptist Church in the Ebenezer community, Jasper, Texas with burial to follow at Hancock Cemetery in Jasper, Texas. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper. Gene died Sunday, May 16, 2021 at his home in Jasper, Texas.
Loyd Gene Hamilton was a native of Port Arthur, Texas, a former resident of Vidor, Texas and had lived in Jasper on the Angelina River for the past 25 years. Gene attended Ebenezer Baptist Church, was a member of the Tolerance Lodge 1165 of Beaumont, the Dewitt Clinton Lodge of Jasper, Order of the Eastern Wisteria 823 of Beaumont and was also a member of the Jasper Master Gardeners. He enjoyed fishing and working in the garden. He helped design and construct the Jasper Arboretum on Water Street. He and his wife enjoyed educating on butterflies in local schools and communities.
Gene is survived by his son Loyd Todd Hamilton and his wife Lisa of Seabrook, Texas; his daughter, Cindy Weston and husband Jaye of College Station, Texas; brother, Mark Hamilton and wife Dolores of Lake Conroe, Texas and his five grandchildren, Jake Kisor and wife, Veronica, Alex Weston MD and wife, Lauren; Jacob Weston DO, Benjamin Hamilton and Quinn Hamilton and great granddaughter, McKenna Weston. He is also survived by a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Prentice Loyd and Mary Vivian Hamilton; his wife of 56 1/2 years, Martha Hamilton; his brother, Michael Wayne Hamilton and his nephew, Mike "Tuffy" Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Jasper Arboretum, P.O. Box 567, Jasper, Texas 75951.
