Lowell "Buzz" Starner

Buzz Starner, 76, died peacefully on November 28, 2020. Born in Westlake, Ohio, he graduated from Kent State University in 1967. Living in Jackson Township, he had a successful business career developing Starner Sales and Marketing, which represented companies in aftermarket car and racing parts. Buzz gave back to KSU by being active in the Alumni Association, Kent State Foundation Board, the athletic department as a member of NADC and as president of the Blue and Gold Club. He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. Buzz and his wife, Marilyn provided the university with the Victory Bell, used at athletic events and graduations. They recently created an endowment for the Pep Band and HUGS for Nurses (Helping Undergraduates Gain Success), a scholarship for senior nursing students. Giving back to Kent State was his way to touch the future.
Buzz's family includes his wife of 53 years, Marilyn (McCourtie) and daughter, Allison Starner of Parma. Also surviving are his brothers, David (Sharon) of Florida, Larry (Marilyn) of Virginia; sister, Kathy (Dave) Nowland of Michigan; sisters in law, Carol Scheck of Massillon, Pat (Pete) Henze of Kent; brother in law, Jim (Janet) McCourtie of Tallmadge. He leaves many other relatives and the best friends ever. However you knew him, please know that you were important to him.
Visitation with family will be 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (On the Historic Tallmadge Circle). Funeral service will follow visitation at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
