BLACK RIVER - Louise M Boyce, 74, Burnup Road, died at 1am Tuesday, at Birchwood Hearth Care Center, Liverpool, where she had been a resident since undergoing vascular
surgery in November.
Mrs Boyce had been co-owner and operator of the Holcomb Street Market, Watertown for more than 20 years. She later worked at Metropolitan Life Insurance Co, Watertown, and at New York Air Brake Co, Watertown from which she retired in 1987.
After her retirement, she was employed at Leonard W Boyce Used Cars, Brownville, until suffering a stroke in December 1996. Following rehabilitations at Misty Glen Nursing Facility, Cortland, she was a resident of Amo’s Golden Gables Adult Home, Watertown.
Born Jan 30, 1923 in Hoboken, NJ, daughter of William and Grace Lawler Dittmar, she attended Hoboken schools.
She married Leonard F Boyce of Hoboken in December 1948. For 12 years the couple lived in Brownville, where she was a full-time homemaker, a Sunday school teacher and a Girl Scout leader. Shortly after the marriage, the Boyces purchased the Holcomb Street Market.
They moved to Watertown in 1960 and Mrs. Boyce joined her husbanding the operation of the market.Also avid horse enthusiasts, they ran the Gotham Hill Stables. The marriage ended in divorce in 1969.
Mrs. Boyce continued to operate the grocery store until it was sold in 1972. She then moved to Black River.
