Mrs. Louise Lightsey Baughman, wife of Mr. Patrick Lee Baughman, peacefully entered her heavenly home on Sunday, December 27, 2020, after a year of declining health. Mrs. Baughman, a resident of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away at her home. Born in Savannah, Georgia on October 18, 1937, she was the oldest daughter of Edward Oswald Lightsey and Louise Cleland Lightsey. For 62 years, she was the devoted wife, best friend and true sweetheart of Mr. Patrick Lee Baughman who survives.
Mrs. Baughman graduated from Wade Hampton High School, Hampton South Carolina and received her Bachelor of Arts in Music from Winthrop College. Mrs. Baughman also successfully completed the Richland Hospital Clinical Pastoral Education Chaplaincy program in Columbia, South Carolina. Three distinct passions were the focus of her life: Faith, Family and Music. Mrs. Baughman's faith and devotion to her Lord provided her with many opportunities for service across the Southeast, the State of South Carolina and in the local churches she belonged to in Hampton, Wagener, Hilton Head and Columbia. From an early age, she understood and supported missions and shared her love of Jesus to everyone. As a homemaker, Mrs. Baughman possessed the spiritual gift of hospitality. She was a gracious host to all who entered her home or sat at her table. She made her home a place of joy. Her family members knew her love for each of them and cherish the memories she lovingly created. Sharing her gift of music brought her such happiness. Mrs. Baughman first became a church organist at fifteen years old at First Baptist Church, Hampton and she went on to serve as the church organist at First Baptist Church of Wagener and First Baptist Church of Hilton Head. Upon moving to Columbia in 1992, Mrs. Baughman participated in the Singing Christmas Tree ministry at Shandon Baptist Church for years and played the piano for the Bible Study Fellowship Women's Day Class in Columbia for over 20 years.
In addition to her husband, Mr. Pat Baughman, she is survived by her son, Lee Baughman of Hendersonville, South Carolina, her daughter Lynn Asnip of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and her daughter and son-in law, Jan and James Hunter of Statesville, North Carolina. She is also survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren who were honored to receive much love from their beloved 'Mimi Lou': Ashlynn and Allen Koon of Columbia, South Carolina, Manning Asnip of Allendale, South Carolina, Patrick and Katie Hunter of Conway, South Carolina, Edward and Leanna Hunter of Woodruff, South Carolina and Louisa Hunter of Birmingham, Alabama and great granddaughter, Cleland Louise Koon of Columbia, South Carolina and great grandson, Lawton Andrew Hunter of Woodruff, South Carolina. Mrs. Baughman is also survived by two sisters: Lil Drawdy (Charlie) of Hampton, South Carolina and Claudia Ware (Billy) of Clemson, South Carolina. She is predeceased by a son-in-law, Timothy Asnip.
The family would like to extend special thanks and appreciation to a faithful family friend, Carla Moody. In addition, the family expresses their deepest gratitude to the loving caregivers of McLeod Home Care, Always Best Care of the Midlands and the nurses and staff of Lighthouse Hospice of Columbia for their compassionate care of Mrs. Baughman over the past year.
