Louise Hammond Bailey, 94, of Pine Hill Road, died Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at her home.
She was born in Paris, ME the daughter of Charles H. and Pauline E. Hammond. She graduated from Paris High School and Mass Memorial Hospitals School of Nursing in Boston, MA where she received her RN. Louise was in the US Cadet Nurse Program during WWII. Louise married Floyd P. Bailey in 1947. She worked in Boston and the family moved to New London in 1953. Louise was a RN at New London Hospital and the William P. Clough Extended Care Center for 30 years. She was a member of The First Baptist Church of New London, past president of the Baptist Women's Fellowship and member of many organizations. She received the NLSO Third-of-a-Century Award in 2013. Louise led the exercise class at Chapin COA for many years. Her family and home were most important to her. They enjoyed camping and traveling and Louise was an avid gardener and loved sewing.
Her husband, Floyd P. Bailey, died in 1984. She was also predeceased by sisters, Caroline E. Hammond, Barbara H. Roy and Mildred H. Black and her parents. Members of her family surviving include a daughter, Lorraine Bailey Barrows (Granville); two sons, Steven W. Bailey (Kerry) and Kenneth B. Bailey (Teresa); nine grandchildren, Peter, Robyn, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Chris, Matthew, Melissa, Abigail, and Brett, fourteen great grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Jerome Black; sister-in-law, Ruth Beverly Bailey; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in the near future at The First Baptist Church of New London.
