Mrs. Louise G. Bailey, our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Aunt, peacefully passed on to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at 107 years of age. She was born October 12, 1915 to Mac and Mary Amerine in Deckerville, Arkansas. She was the oldest of six children.
The family moved to Jonesboro Arkansas early in her childhood. In Jonesboro she met and married Reverend Robert Brown Burks who preceded her in death. Later in life she married Mr. Curtis Bailey who also preceded her in death. In 1948 the Burks family moved to South Bend, Indiana and shortly after she joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church where she continued to be a faithful and dedicated member until her passing. She loved and was loved by her family. She was always there for anyone who needed her. She led her family by example of what a true servant of God should be.
Over the many years of service to St. John, a church that she dearly loved, she held several offices. Among them were Secretary to the Missionary Department which she later became President of Circle #2. She organized the District Nurses and was President for 10 years. She was also Vice President for the State Nurses in her district for 14 years.
Mother Bailey very much enjoyed delivering flowers and dinners for the church to other church members who were ill or could no longer attend church. She spent a great deal of her time visiting nursing homes and hospitals helping wherever she was needed. She has received the Key to the City and many, many awards for her unwavering dedication to serve the community. She worked at Memorial Hospital as a Nurse's Aid for over thirty years before she retired. At the age of 80, she was employed by the South Bend School Corporation to work as a Nurse's assistant at Perley Elementary School. She resigned at age 85.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mac and Mary Amerine, her two husbands, Robert Brown Burks and Curtis Bailey.
