Louis Virgil Rockey Jr., 91, passed away March 25, 2022. He was born in Scipio, Indiana on March 26, 1930 to the late Louis Virgil Sr. and Ruth Rockey. He grew up in Indianapolis with his four younger sisters, where he graduated from Franklin Township High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Exene Tucker and they settled down in the Indianapolis area where they raised four sons. Louis retired after working 35 years for Western Electric Co. in Indianapolis. At the end of their 51 year marriage Louis became caregiver for his wife until her death. He would marry Phyllis Hoard and instantly became grandfather and great grandfather to her family. He would be married to Phyllis for 19 years. Louis was a devoted family man, with a quick wit, and could bring joy to people with just a smile. A good athlete himself in his youth, he was the leading scorer in basketball in Marion County in 1948. He enjoyed watching his sons' participating in and coaching sports. He loved playing cards with friends, watching sports on TV and spending time with family. He picked up golf after turning 70. He enjoyed being around people and he was loved and enjoyed by everyone everywhere he went. Louis was a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis where he also served as a deacon and trustee. Louis was predeceased by his wife, Exene J. Rockey, son, Dr. Donald L. Rockey, and granddaughter, Rebecca J. Rockey. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Rockey; sons, Rev. Ronald L. Rockey (Janice), John L. Rockey (Debbie), Conrad L. Rockey (Beth); step-daughters, Tammy Adams (Mark) and Terri Bostic; daughter-in-law, Teresa Rockey; 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Services will be held at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 9950 Southeastern Ave., Indianapolis. Visitation on Friday, April 1st from 5-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 2nd from 10-11:00 a.m. with funeral at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport has been entrusted with handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association or Southminster Presbyterian Church through the funeral home.
