Dr. Louis Arthur Gardner, Jr. of Smyrna, GA passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.
He was 87. Lou was born October 4, 1934 to Gladys Rhodes Sziede and Louis A. Gardner, Sr.
in Rockland, MA.
After Lou's retirement from Georgia State University, he pursued his passions for golf, cribbage and the arts. For fun he worked part-time at Towne Lake Hills Golf Club, allowing him to play golf as often as possible. He traveled the United States playing in cribbage tournaments winning many awards. Locally, he played cribbage every Tuesday with his friends at the Delkwood Grill. He also volunteered as an usher for the Symphony at Chastain Park and in December the Atlanta Symphony.
Prior to retirement, Lou was a professor at Georgia State University where he taught Curriculum and Instruction. Students were amazed that as a high school drop-out he was able to earn his doctorate by his mid-thirties. After dropping out of high school, Lou joined the Air Force where he was a Staff Sargent stationed in Greenland and later at Carswell AFB in Ft. Worth, TX.
Lou earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education from North Texas State University and his doctorate from The University of Texas.
In addition to his parents, Lou was preceded by wife Evelyn L. Price Gardner. He is survived by his daughters, Diane Albright (Dennis), Carrollton, GA; Dawn Eckes (Bill), Marietta, GA; his partner Diane Lehman; step-children Tim Price (Allison), Chevy Chase, MD; Donna Vaughn (Randy), Marietta, GA. Grandchildren: Apryl Duncan (Robert), Michael Albright (Andy), Stephen Albright (Natalie), Amanda White (Jamie Spradley), Austin White (Allie), Blue Winkles (Hollie), Ford Price, Jack Price and Ike Price. Great grandchildren: Alexandria Chapman, Jaxson Cole, Carrigan, Owen and Allie Rose Albright, Hunter, Audrey and Boone Albright, Ayla Maeroff, Axel and Archer White.
