Tommy Thomas was born in Houston, Texas and his family moved to Dallas when he was a young boy. He attended school and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1959. He attended several universities and began his journalism career at the Dallas Morning News. From there he went to New York City and was a feature sports writer for Newspaper Enterprise Association (NEA). He then moved to the D.C. area and covered sports for the Washington Daily News. After the Washington Daily News folded he and his wife, Patty, moved to Vancouver, British Columbia,Canada, and wrote for The Province. His final newspaper job was sports editor,for 17 years, with the Nevada Appeal Newspaper Carson City,NV .
While serving in Vietnam in 1965 he sent special interest stories to the Dallas Morning News.
He loved fishing, poker, hiking,and cross country skiing with family and friends. Tommy was an avid observer of all sports , especially football and baseball. He was known to place a wager or two on a game for his added interest.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Patricia Moore Thomas, Henderson, NV., Jennifer Barbee, daughter, Henderson, NV., Jesse Louis Barbee, grandson, Henderson,NV., Larry and Linda Thomas, brother and sister in law, Plano,TX., Stanley and Trellis Moore, brother and sister in laws, Vacaville, Ca., Bill and Sue McMillan, cousins, Los Osos, Ca., and the late Louis A. and Frances I. Thomas of Dallas,TX.
