Louie Elliott Johnson, son of the late Jack Johnson and Bertha Hart Derrick was born on April 17, 1953, in Columbia, SC. He departed this earthly journey and entered eternal life on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at PRISMA Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.
Louie was educated in the public schools of Richland County and attended Booker T. Washington High School in Columbia, SC. He worked many years in Environmental Services at the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. He furthered his work career as a skilled laborer, doing odd jobs throughout the Columbia area. Louie later turned in his hard hat and hung up his boots and became a full-time retiree.
Louie loved life and was the life of the party. He would often say “I got one life to live and I’mma live it to the fullest.” He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved to laugh and enjoyed sitting on the porch with his former coworkers and friends, just listening to the stories they told. He often shared with them some of his experiences, as they would all laugh about his tales with “Jimbo”. When Louie wasn’t spending time with family or friends, he could be found watching his favorite western movies. Louie’s loving spirit will forever be remembered as a son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
Louie was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Yolanda Vashawn; brother, James Derrick; and a loving niece, Emma Dean Derrick.
Those left to cherish his memories are his loving daughters, Mable Hipp of Irmo, SC; Erika Johnson (Rafael Figueroa, Jr.) of Concord, NC; and LaTisha Swinton of Columbia, SC; eight grandchildren, Rafael, Shamon and Antonio Figueroa, LaTisha (Julius) Griffin, Melissa and Destiny Johnson, Nicholas Henley and Aaden Hipp; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Bertha Louise Williams and Reverend Mary Breland-Williams both of Columbia, SC; two devoted nieces and nephews, Pathenia (John)Williams-Stark, Shonta’ Williams, and Marion Derrick, all of Columbia, SC; and Isaac Williams of York, SC; two close friends, Gregg and Fred both of Columbia, SC; and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.
