entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. Lorraine Beverly Walsh was born August 6, 1933 in New Orleans, LA. One of her earliest memories was accepting Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She held him near from that moment on. Growing up, Lorraine developed a love for traditional New Orleans cuisine and blossomed into an expert cook, which was to benefit everyone who was lucky enough to know her.
Lorraine was a proud Arkansas Razorback (Woo Pig Sooie!), and it was there in Fayetteville where her radiant smile and fabulous cooking dazzled an aspiring attorney, Joe Wayne Walsh. Joe's job as assistant DA eventually led them to Brownsville where they both fell in love with the culture and the people of the Rio Grande Valley.
Always the gracious hostess, over the years Lorraine threw countless social gatherings. Church activities, weddings, and baby showers showcased her excellent cooking skills, impeccable taste, and love for her community.
Lorraine had outstanding leadership skills. In addition to raising five children, she served as president of the ladies Bar Auxiliary, was Girl Scout leader, led fundraisers for school functions, and yet somehow managed to go back to school, graduate with honors, and become a tax accountant at Long and Chilton.
Although she loved all her activities (especially her Bunco and Bridge groups of over 50 years), her passion was teaching Sunday school and telling others about Christ. In recent years, Lorraine spent her time with family doing what she did best: spoiling grandchildren, cooking, entertaining, and serving the Lord.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Wayne Walsh, infant son, Richard Milton Walsh, and her mother Juanita Mohrmann. She is survived by her five children, Cynthia Walsh, Larry Walsh and wife Ginger, Carolyn Birky and husband Doug, Cheryl Patterson and husband Johnie, Lesley Richters and husband Alex, 15 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, two sisters, Judy Mc Math and Christine Fontanille, her best friend of over 60 years, Ann Graham, numerous little brats, angel faces and a few knuckleheads. A celebration of Lorraine's life will be held at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, Brownsville, TX on January 15, 2022 at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, Lorraine requested that donations be made to Sunshine Haven Hospice, 7105 W.Lakeside Blvd, Olmito, TX 78575.
