Lorraine Stiles Vayens Smith, Hillsborough, died November 2nd , age 96. Born in Newburyport, MA on January 15, 1926, she was the last to survive of eight children born to Guy Stiles and Velma Mae Jordan.
She was preceded in death by sons Rene A. Vayens and Arthur R. Vayens III and grandson Brian Crane.
Lorry is survived by four children: Bernard Crane, Acushnet, MA, William Vayens, Jr and husband Robert Guida, The Villages, FL, Kathy Lowell, Summerville, SC and Heidi Houghton and husband Edd Houghton, Hillsborough, NH. She is survived by 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Lorry loved all animals, but horses were her passion. She took in many different animals for the Humane Society of NH and Maine in her later years. She was admired for her skills and was a bit of a horse whisperer who rode well into her 90's. She started the Pioneer Riding Club in Antrim, NH.
Services will be held at Bennington Congregational Church, Bennington, NH on Saturday, July 22, followed by interment later that day at South Chatham Cemetery, South Chatham, NH.
