Lorraine Bonita (Crowe) Herr was born in Wenatchee, WA July 24,1927 to Wallace B. Crowe, and Myrtle M. (Wierman) Crowe. She passed away August 20, 2022 in Snohomish, WA at the age of 95. Lorraine spent her early years living in logging camps in Washington and Oregon. The family eventually set up permanent residence in Hood River, OR where Lorraine graduated from Hood River High School in 1945, and went to work for the Post Office. Lorraine married Forrest Arthur Herr at her parent's home in Hood River on November 24, 1946. They had four children:James, Dianna, Susan, and Ronald. The family moved to Clearview, WA in 1955. Lorraine retired from the Everett Post Office in 1985. She spent her retirement years quilting countless hours with her mother whom she cared for until her death in 2003. She made quilts for all of her grandchildren as they graduated High School. She sewed chemo hats for hospitals, cool down ties for military members overseas, and by the time she was 93, she had sewn 150 sundresses for children in Uganda. A gifted musician, Lorraine played piano by ear, had a beautiful singing voice, and loved to dance. She was a leader of Scouts, 4-H, Blue Birds, and manager of the band her son, Ron, started while still in school. She held offices in Horseshoe Grange #965, Snohomish County Pamona, Rose Rebekah Lodge, and the American Postal Workers Union (APWU shop steward). Lorraine was the family Matriarch who treated all with compassion and grace. She never met a soul she would not help. Her generous and giving spirit was without measure. She was mom or grandma to many, and will be deeply missed. Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents, husband Forrest Herr, son James Herr, daughter Susan Chase, grandson Eric Herr, brother Dennis Crowe, and nephew Murray Crowe. She is survived by daughter Dianna Engeseth, son Ronald (Cheryl) Herr, daughter-in-law Sherry Herr, 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Graveside services will be held at G.A.R Cemetery in Snohomish, WA at 11AM September 6, 2022. A Celebration of Life will follow at Hill Park on Blackmans Lake. All are welcome.
