Lorraine Babette Glennon, 94, formerly of Levittown, NY, St. Petersburg, FL, and Cathedral City, CA, died on January 2, 2021 at Linda Manor Extended Care Facility in Leeds, MA. Born Lorraine Babette Keleher in Queens, NY to Henry and Ruth Keleher, she and her brother Henry were raised by their beloved grandparents, Babette and Louis Schweizer, after Ruth's death when Lorraine was just 15.
She was educated at New York University and St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City. She married Richard Francis Glennon in 1948, and together they brought up their family of seven children. Lorraine was a member of the Levittown School Committee and was dedicated to her work for the Democratic National Committees in both New York and Florida. A liberal socialist long before it became cool, she also served on the local presidential election committee for Senator Robert Kennedy After her children were grown, she worked as a bridal consultant in china, crystal, and silver for Maas Brothers department store in St. Petersburg, retiring in 1992.
Lorraine was an excellent cook, baker, pianist, singer, and swimmer, with a charming, easy laugh. She enjoyed socializing, telling stories about her grandchildren, and ranting about politics. She may have been guilty of cutting out a few newspaper articles to share with her family now and then. Always hungry for knowledge, Lorraine enjoyed reading good books and perused the newspaper thoroughly each day. She adored watching the same old movies she had seen many times before, and she loved, loved, loved babies!
Predeceased by her husband Richard in 1997, by her daughter Katherine and older brother Henry, she is survived by her children Richard, Babette, David, Michael, Patrick, and Maura;14 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Her family would like to sincerely thank all of the staff at Linda Manor Extended Care Facility's Forest View Unit for the kindness and care they gave Lorraine during her residence there, and Hospice of Franklin County for their generous support.
Although Lorraine requested that her body be donated to Harvard University's Medical Program for the advancement of science (she was a believer), that program has been temporarily suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Ahearn Funeral Home will provide cremation services, and her children will scatter her ashes in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do not vote Republican.
