Loretta Edge Wells, born January 24, 1939, widow of Maynard C. Wells was born and raised in Soperton, Georgia and passed away at her home in Bluffton on June 5, 2022. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Georgia and attained her masters in English at the University of North Carolina. She was a member of both Zeta Tau Alpha and Phi Beta Kappa. After graduation, she moved to Savannah where she taught English. Later, she relocated to Atlanta and was an editor with Atlanta Magazine. She eventually moved back to Savannah and remained there for 26 years before moving to Bluffton full time. She is predeceased by her parents Grover and Gladys (Smith) Edge and her two sisters Judy Jendro and Mary Anna Manring. She is survived by her two children Jason Wells (Mandi) and Anna Wells Sharp (Cal Sharp); grandchildren, Olvia Wells, Stone Wells, Taylor Sharp and Wells Sharp and several close nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, Thursday, June 9, 2022 at The Church Of The Cross, Calhoun Street, Bluffton, SC.
In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Friends of the Bluffton Library, Bluffton Historical and Preservation Society, or The Church of the Cross
