Mrs. Lorayne Dee Stutzman Crew passed away on November 3, 2021, at the age of 81. Her husband Cal, nicknamed her "Lori" and that was the name by which most everyone knew her. Lori was a native of Blissfield, Michigan. However, at her death she was a resident of Shreveport, Louisiana. She and Cal moved there to be closer to her daughter and family in 2012. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date in Michigan.
Lori grew up on her family's farm in Blissfield, Michigan. She graduated from Metamora High School and earned her BA in Education from Manchester College in Indiana in 1961. During her first year of teaching in Toledo, Ohio, she met Cal, who was also a teacher and basketball coach. They decided very quickly that they were meant to be together. On August 4, 1962, they were married and moved to Southern California. They would move again to Las Vegas and ultimately to Salinas, California where they settled and raised their daughter Cari. There Lori was given an opportunity to teach Kindergarten and never taught any other grade from then on until she retired in 2000. Then in 2003 they moved to Colorado where they enjoyed their 2-acre lot with deer and rabbits. On the move to Colorado Lori had an accident in which she broke her back. Unfortunately, this changed their life immensely as she continued to have chronic pain the rest of her life. She was a trooper and enjoyed life and her family as best she could for the next 18 years. Lori was a kind and loving mother, wife, and grandmother. She had such a caring and calming way about her and her family will always feel her warmth. She also had the most beautiful smile that would light up any room.
Lori was preceded in death by her sister, Delila Lee Stutzman Newlin, and her parents Olah Kathryn Fike Stutzman Bryant and Floyd Frederick Stutzman. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, J. Calvin Crew; daughter Cari Lynn Crew Carter and husband Gene; grand-daughters Genene Emily Carter, Julia Lorin Carter, and Kylene Anna Carter; brothers Edward Frederick Stutzman and wife Keitha, William J. Stutzman and wife Lora, and James Martin Stutzman and wife Carol; aunt Rosie Stutzman Bohlka, uncle Royce Stutzman and wife Sue, and uncle Marvin Fike and wife Doris; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
