WALKERTON, IN - Lorayne Anne Cripe, 96, passed away peacefully at 10:45 pm, Monday, January 11, 2021 at Miller's Merry Manor in Walkerton, IN. Lorayne was born on November 23,1924 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Oscar and Mabel (Anderson) Wahlgren. She is survived by three children, Sandra Williams of Michigan City, IN, Pamela (Steven) Westerdahl of Crossville, TN, and Kevin (Jill) Cripe of South Bend, IN; five grandchildren, Joe (Stephanie) Rhodes (IN), Stacy Rhodes (CO), Scott (Stacy) Joseph (IN), Jamie (Robert) Larsen (IL), and Maureen Cripe (IN); and seven great-grandchildren, Alex and Tayler (CO), Zoe, Asher, and Hannah (IN), and Joey and Lauren (IL). She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, a son-in-law, Dave Williams , and a sister, Doris Rentner.
Lorayne graduated from Christian Fenger Academy High School, Chicago, in 1942. She married Lawrence (Larry) A. Cripe on June 12, 1943 and celebrated 61 years of marriage upon Larry's death on January 24, 2005. Lorayne worked at Johnson & Johnson in Chicago as a lab technician for over 35 years. She was very proud of her work there, and received awards for her accomplishments. After retiring from Johnson & Johnson she moved to Walkerton, IN.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Her hobbies included working on crafts such as needlepoint and crocheting. She was an avid reader frequently enjoying the newspaper or her favorite book. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be missed by all who knew her.
An informal remembrance service will be held by her family at a later date. Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home, 408 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton was entrusted with arrangements.
