Loras A. Clemen, 91, of Dubuque, died Monday, February 10, 2025, at Accura Healthcare in Cascade.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, February 17, 2025 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Loras will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Tyler Raymond as the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Balltown.
Loras was born November 17, 1933, in Holy Cross, IA, the son of Alphonse and Armella (Schieltz) Clemen. He served in the United States Army from 1956 until 1958 where he worked as a track vehicle mechanic in Mannheim, Germany. On August 23, 1958, he married Darlene Habel at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Balltown, IA. She preceded him in death on May 18, 2017.
Loras farmed for many years and also worked as a fork truck driver at John Deere Dubuque Works. He was a collector of many things, such as, model airplanes, steam engines, cuckoo clocks, and various other toys. He had a bit of a sweet tooth and loved candy, his favorite being Bit O' Honey. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, polka dancing with Darlene, and hanging out in Balltown at Breitbachs. His pride and joy was his 1931 Model A. He was a great storyteller and could always tell a good joke. Loras was also a member of the Catholic Foresters and a member of UAW Local 94.
Survivors include his four children, Clark Clemen of Frost, MN, Lynn (Gene) Langel of New Vienna, IA, Kevin (Mary) Clemen of Worthington, IA, and Dawn (Dallas) Tully of Sherrill, IA; eight grandchildren, Veronica (Matt) Gemlo, Annie Knepper, Tony Langel, John Langel, Kaitlyn Clemen, Mitchel Clemen, Michael Tully, and Autumn Tully; two great-grandchildren, Brian Knepper and Roselyn Gemlo; two siblings, Dale (Carol) Clemen of Dubuque, Cathy (Don) Keppler of Manchester, IA; two sisters-in-law, Patsy Clemen and Linda Clemen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, Loras was preceded in death by his in-laws, John and Veronica Habel; three brothers, Vernon Clemen, Jerome Clemen, and Francis "Fritz" Clemen; two sisters, Germaine (Marvin) Gaul and Janice (Willis) Wagner; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Rose Habel, Benny (Kay) Habel, Cyril (Florence) Habel, and Bert (Stella) McDermott.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
