Lonny Gene Shippy, 86, of Powell, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2022 in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by loved ones. Lonny was born in Kendallville, Indiana and graduated from the University of Cincinnati. He married his late wife Cleta Faye (Gibbs) Shippy in 1956 and resided in Elyria from 1975 until moving to Powell, Ohio in 2017. Lonny's 43-year career as a civil engineer and public servant made a lasting impact in people's daily lives. After retiring as Elyria City Engineer in 1998, Lonny served on the Elyria Public Library System Board of Trustees. Lonny held a respectful faith in God. A devoted husband and father, he enjoyed storytelling, games, bicycling, golf, genealogy, computers, and spending time with friends. He is survived by his children Steven (Kathy) Shippy, Linda (Gary dec.) Brown, Edward (Debbie dec.) Shippy, Julie (Trevor) McGill, and Amy (Michael) Lewis; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and brother Richard Shippy. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and granddaughter Tamara Zalud. Visitation will be Friday, October 28th, 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Newcomer Northwest Chapel, Powell, Ohio followed by service at 4:00 pm. Burial will be Saturday, October 29th, 2:00 pm in Lewis Center, Ohio. In remembrance of Lonny's life, the family asks that any donations be made at mysourcepoint.org.
