Lola (Welch) Moore

Lola (Welch) Marie Moore was born March 29, 1943, to the late Davie Mae and James Welch. She had made Longview her home for the past 40 years. Lola was a proud graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University, where she earned her B.A. in Education. She began her teaching career in Nebraska before returning to Texas, where she continued teaching while also earning her M.A. in advanced education from SFA. With a special dedication to children with learning disabilities, she became a trailblazer in education. Following the passage of the Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975, Lola played a pivotal role in establishing the Special Education programs in Hallsville, Waskom, Harleton, and Karnack ISDs.

After retiring in 2003, she continued to serve children by working alongside her husband in his psychology practice, testing and supporting families. Beyond her work, Lola lived life to the fullest. She loved traveling and sightseeing, gardening, cooking, sailing, and sharing good food and good wine with loved ones. Fitness, belly dancing, and helping special needs children brought her joy and purpose throughout her life.

She was a proud member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and cherished the many friendships and connections she made through her work and community.

Lola is survived by her devoted husband of 41 years, Dr. Craig L. Moore of Longview; her daughters, Erin (McIntyre) Jones and Kelly (Moore) Garrett; her sister, Doris Welch Sanders; and her beloved grandchildren, Jacob Bartholomew, Charley Garrett, and John Ivey Garrett.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to The Martin House Children's Advocacy Center in Lola's honor.

A celebration of life will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at The Reserve, 7725 N. US Hwy 259, Longview, Texas 75605. Luncheon at 11:30 a.m.
