It is with sorrow in our hearts that our family announces the passing of Lois Farmer at the age of 93.
Born Lois June Stroup on April 10, 1931, in Altamont, Kansas, she was the youngest of four siblings and the last living member of her immediate family.
In her early years, she lost her mother Madelyn. Her father Grover did what he could. But as a teenager, she lived with a few of her older siblings, eventually taking her to Oklahoma City. As a young adult, she worked as a telephone switchboard operator to make ends meet.
Soon, she met Bill Farmer, a pharmacist and WWll veteran who came to pick up her roommate for a date. Later that week, Lois was surprised to receive a phone call from Bill asking if she ? not her roommate ? wanted to see him again. Two weeks later, on Nov. 10, 1951, Lois and Bill married. They were married for 53 years until Bill's death in 2004. They had two sons, Kim Lee Farmer and Stephen Kent Farmer.
The family of four moved to Odessa, Texas in 1962 to partner in Town and Country Drug. They became active members of Sherwood Baptist Church. Bill worked long hours as a pharmacist, and Lois worked even longer hours as a mother and wife. Eventually, when the boys moved out, she came to work at the pharmacy, where she played a vital role in managing the day-to-day billing and merchandise operations. They moved their church membership to First Baptist Church.
Lois had an eye for d?cor and was admired among her friends as an immaculate dresser. In later life, she became a prolific painter of landscapes, portraits and (her favorite subject) sunflowers, which filled her kitchen walls. She was also the family archivist, preserving precious memories by photographing family events, storing volumes of old family photos, and creating scrapbooks with detailed notes on the people, places and dates displayed in those memories.
She traveled with Bill to many places, including New York, Hawaii, Acapulco and even Israel. She was blessed by many things and lived a full life, which she enjoyed reflecting on in her later years.
She carries on through her family, including Kim and Julie Farmer, Steve and Kelly Farmer, and grandchildren Bridget, Christine, Ben and Amanda.
She loved greatly, and was greatly loved.
Lois was a righteous woman and has joined her beloved husband Bill. We'll see them again.
A graveside service for Lois will be held Monday, March 10, 2025 from 1:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, 6801 E, Odessa, TX 79762.
